Today is World Oceans Day
World Oceans Day is a global day of ocean celebration and collaboration for a better future. The ocean is the heart of our planet. Covering 71% of the Earth’s surface, oceans also regulate the climate, feeds millions of people every year, produces oxygen, is the home to an incredible array of wildlife, provides us with important medicines, and so much more.
This year on World Oceans Day, the ‚Healthy oceans, healthy planet‘ theme will be highlighted, with a special effort to stop plastic pollution.
Plastic pollution is a serious threat because it degrades very slowly, polluting waterways for a very long time. In addition, plastic pollution impacts the health of aquatic animals because animals including zoo-plankton mistake the microbeads for food. Scientists also fear health impacts for humans.
To commemorate World Oceans Day and all the oceans magical powers La Mer has decided to help protect sea and its living creatures through bringing the Blue Heart program to life.
La Mer is grateful for the gift of healthy oceans, but there is still progress to be made in protecting the blue heart of the planet. Inspired by the sea for generations, La Mer is proud of its Blue Heart program, under which it has donated a huge amount to help protect the oceans.
For the third consecutive year, La Mer is proud to partner with National Geographic and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Dr. Sylvia Earle, renowned for bringing the importance of healthy ocean habitats to the forefront of conservationist movements worldwide. La Mer supports Dr. Sylvia Earle and National Geographic’s work in ocean conservation.
